| Kipling, Rudyard. THE WRITINGS IN PROSE AND VERSE OF RUDYARD KIPLING. | £100 | |||||
| The Outward Bound Edition. In 26 vols. In reddish-brown cloth with ganesha device in ivory on front covers. New volumes were issued shortly after a new work appeared (the next was in 1919 and the set was completed in 1937 finally numbering 36 volumes). When reprinting the contents and numbering of the volumes was changed so care is needed to complete the set. Stewart lists the volumes and their contents on pp561-563. This set is a bibliographical nightmare. It is complete up to 1919 but 3 vols of the original run have been replaced by later printings of the same titles with different volume numbers. Thus although the text is complete to date, the volumes do not number in a complete sequence. This of course is reflected in the price. Very good. Spines faded except for the 3 out of sequence volumes whose spines are brighter. 1898-1917 Charles Scribner's Sons, New York. | ||||||
